Question

Why did I get diplopia after my cataract surgery? I have one eye that crosses and I have constant double vision. One of my doctors is going to inject botox in my eye muscles.

I have not had a problem with crossed eye or double vision since I was 2 years old. I am 51 years old now.

Answer:

Dear Ruth

Double vision occurs occasionally after cataract surgery, especially when the patient has looked with one eye only for months or years before surgery, because the other eye had the cataract. A squint may also occur after cataract surgery because of manipulation of the eye. In either case, the squint may be treated by surgery, prism glasses or botulinum toxin.
