Question
I want surgery to correct the my lazy eye However my lack of both funds and
medical insurance have impeded my progress. I'm sure some at home treatment can
work. It has helped but not as well as I've liked. I've done the patch when I was younger
but it didn't help much. I've been reading books with my "lazy eye" and concentrating
on moving the eye while watching TV and being on my computer and such How well do
these visual exercises treat lazy eye?
How close can it come to fixing the problem without surgery? Would it alleviate
problems during future surgery?
Thank you for your time.
Matt.

Answer:
Matthew,
A lazy eye can only be succesfully treated up to age six, with little chance on success
thereafter. Exercise only improves visual acuity of the lazy eye temporarily. Strabismus
surgery does not improve your visual function either, it would be performed primarily for
cosmetic reasons, although in some case depth perception may become better.
